“The Family Unity University can become the world’s premier international and intercultural institution for applied research, education, training and publishing in the field of family development.”
Developing unity in societies, nations, and the world depends upon on learning how to build true unity between individuals within families as the primary building blocks of united nations and a united world. We see long-term international and crosscultural collaboration in learning and action to support the healthy development of united families around the world.
To do this, we must systematically build capacity for healthy marriage and family life starting while we are still youth. Both spiritual and material education, inspired by the core teachings of the world’s major religions, is fundamental to unity in the family. The Family Unity University aims to become the world’s premier international and intercultural institution for applied research, education, training and publishing in the field of family development.
The family is the root model of adult human relationships based on trust, respect, love, justice, compassion and other vital qualities.
“Recognizing the oneness of humanity and the family as its basic building-block, the family remains the most effective institution to nurture the values of mutual respect, tolerance and spirituality in our future generations.”…
…”The family is a nation in miniature” and, therefore, I urge all the decision-makers and stakeholders in our communities and nations to work to ensure a family-sustaining and friendly environment for a better world for our generations to come.”
Jan Kavan, President of the UN General Assembly, UN Headquarters, NEW YORK, 15 May 2003
The Family Unity University/Insitute is a social development organization dedicated to supporting marriage and family life. It has emerged from the teachings and actions of the Baha’i Faith and works in close concert with the other faith-based society-building individuals, organizations and activities.
Whether hidden or revealed, verbal and physical domestic violence, neglect and abuse, estrangement and apathy in families have eaten into the fabric of many societies as materialism has spread, within and beyond the shores of industrialized nations. Economic consequences are increasingly evident on top of social distress and disintegration.
From the Baha’i Writings:
“Note…how easily, where unity existeth in a given family, the affairs of that family are conducted; what progress the members of that family make, how they prosper in the world.
The conditions surrounding the family surround the nation. The happenings in the family are the happenings in the life of the nation. …for nations are but an aggregate of families.
…reflect upon the favors and blessings which descend upon that family when unity exists among its various members. What incalculable benefits and blessings would descend upon the great human family if unity and brotherhood were established!
Building unity in families requires unity among supporters of families. We foster unity, in diversity, within families and societies to the degree we embody and act upon on the underlying spiritual principles of the worlds great religions.
